
ABOUT
TOM
Over 40 years of legal and practical experience in the insurance industry.
Tom graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in history and political science before beginning a career in the insurance industry. Tom earned his AIIC (CIP) from the Insurance Institute of Canada and worked as a claims adjuster for the Canadian National Railway, Safeco Insurance, and Fireman's Fund.
Tom then returned to school and obtained his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1988. As a founding partner of Zarek Taylor Grossman Hanrahan LLP, Tom specialized in property and general liability cases. He has worked in all areas of insurance law, including personal injury, products liability, fraudulent claims for arson, business interruptions, and property and stock losses.
Tom has provided coverage opinions on a wide variety of property policies and has assisted insurers with policy re-writes.
In 2019, Tom was selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in Canada list in the areas of insurance law and personal injury litigation.
Tom has taught the CIP and FIIC insurance courses at the University of Toronto and is a member of the Insurance Appraisal and Umpire Association.
