Umpire
Under the Ontario Insurance Act, all fire insurance policies and most property insurance policies require that disagreements between the insurer and insured over the value of a property or loss are to be determined by an appraisal process. In this process, each party appoints an appraiser who must agree on an independent umpire to review and quantify the damages that a party is claiming under the insurance policy. The agreement between any two parties (ie. one appraiser and the umpire) is binding. Tom provides umpire services for both commercial and residential losses.
Appraisal
As an appraiser, Tom evaluates damages either on behalf of the insurance company or the insured. This includes field work evaluating damage to the property, preparing a scope of repairs, gathering contractor estimates, and preparing a final fair market cost to repair.

Tom has trained at Vale in both commercial and residential estimating, and has completed training courses in blue print reading. Years of legal knowledge on court decisions regarding damage evaluation as well as practical experience as an insurance adjuster allows him to excel in this role.
